#LahadDatu: PENDUDUK KAMPUNG SIMUNUL AKAN DITEMPATKAN SEMULA..

Villagers in the Kampung Simunul settlement in Semporna district where six policemen were killed during the Tanduo-Sulu intrusion in Lahad Datu in February will be relocated soon.

Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) director-general Datuk Mohammad Mentek said the exercise was part of the overall plan to relocate citizens and deport illegal immigrants living in the area.

“Esscom and the state government are preparing a suitable framework on how to go about this as it involves a lot of people and requires proper planning,” he said at his Hari Raya open house here yesterday.

Mentek said according to a census carried out in early August, there were 2,356 houses in the nine water villages at the Simunul area, with about 170 of them believed to be occupied by foreigners.

“Citizens will be resettled to identified areas whereby they are required to pay a minimal rental fee upon moving in, while illegal immigrants will be deported,” he said.

Mentek said the department would also be working with the local authorities to facilitate the resettlement and deportation exercise. - Source
